So far, So Good

Imogen had her Methotrexate injection (hereby known as MTX as fed up of having to type it lol) on Friday morning. So far so good, no adverse side effects which is good. It's a low dose of chemotherapy to try and knock out her immune system so it stops attacking itself. Weekly injections for at least TWO years, which is not so good, but as always we will manage.

We are looking at getting Imogen a Buzzy http://www.buzzy4shots.co.uk/index.html
They are supposed to help with pain from injections, blood tests etc. To my readers, have you used one? Did it work for you?

I will write up a review once we have got one and tried it out.

But Imogen has been in fine form these last few days. She spent time today running around with her older brother and her cousin :) It is lovely to see, and she's so happy and cheerful at the moment.

The steroids have started to fill her face out though, she is beginning to look a little chubby bless her :)

Have got to ring the Dr's tomorrow as Imogen is extremely constipated due to the amount of medication she's taking :( She's just woken up due to the fact that she cannot poo!

But in the grand scheme of things... to be honest it could be much worse!!!

  1. Just found you blog. My Daughter has JIA too and I Have RA so am really looking forward to coming back later to have a good read (can't stop now as have to rush to work).

I'm on MTX injections too. They take some time to work and do help but as a warning I go from one infection to the next. My Daughter luckily hasn't had to have them yet.

Hope they work for your Daughter.

Never heard of a buzzy before but would be interested to see if they work as its hell when my Daughter needs to have needle of any kind. Last year she ran around the DR surgery for 50 minutes to avoid her flu injection then it took the Dr, a nurse, me and my Father to hold her down. When she has her steroid injections and they put her to sleep (with gas) I get them to take as much as they like!

  2. Hi Candace,

Imogen is not a fan of canulas and blood tests either, which is why we are looking at getting one. The wings are also ice packs so can help with swelling and other general injuries. Looks like quite a handy thing to have for bumps and bruises :)
Imogen never had steroid injections as they thought 8 joints were too many, so she went onto IV steroids instead. We now have weekly MTX injections on a Friday. Picked up our next two doses today.

  3. Hi, Jessica, I hope your little girl is a lot better, my daughter is also under gosh, and is waiting for joint injections....she is on oral mtx and 20mg prednisolone at moment but the sweeling in her wrists and fingers is just not budging...she is bouncing around after having 3 day pulse in August and is sooo much better than she was, it took gps ets 1 year to diagnose her as they said she had cysts in the top of her hands...alas it was actually arthritis and got worse form there on. I still hope and pray every day that she will grow out of this...
